Gonzalez is not traded at the trade deadline, as he refuses to be traded to Buffalo.

Many Chiefs fans want to blame/hate Carl Peterson for not getting this deal done.
I don't blame Carl for this, if anything I applaud him. I am sick of seeing overpaid athletes think they should control the actions of their employers. Gonzalez will go down as the greatest Chiefs player when all is said and done. Why trade him? There is NO benefit for the team at all. A third rounder for one of the most productive TEs in the game today? That is a joke.
On top of it, Gonzalez said he wanted to be traded to a "contender," then pulled back and said "not this contender, not that contender." It truly amazes me the way trades work in the NFL. The average NFL career is about 2.5 years, yet NFL teams dump tons of money on the unproven Ryan Leafs and Tim Couchs of the world, but refuse to pay top dollar for proven NFL stud veterans. Tony IS worth more than a 3rd rounder, and hopefully someday the NFL will have a natural correction in the way they pay for and compensate the talent.
On a side note, I blame Carl for drafting like crap. That is all. This mess you see before you every Sunday afternoon is not the blame of Carl Peterson. I truly believe that Carl wanted to go out and spend money. I believe that Carl cannot stand the turd players Herm is putting on the field week in and week out. I believe Carl has a weekly conversation with Dick Vermiel that simply goes like this: Carl, "Fuck!" Dick, "Yep..." I believe Carl knows the NFL is a business. I believe Carl knows that winning, above all else, brings in money.
I am sick of being force-fed the word "rebuild(ing)" by NFL franchises and the media. In the NFL it is impossible to "rebuild." The biggest proof is the fact that the average NFL career is so short. You do not rebuild, you properly evaluate talent and draft accordingly. I cannot understand why so many NFL fans buy into the theory or rebuilding. A MLB team can rebuild. Why? Only 1/6-1/8 of their players in their organization are playing for their highest level team. In the NFL, it is nearly all of their players. You cnnot "rebuild" unless there is some form of developmental league. It is that simple.
The common "rebuilding" period is 5 years. We are currently in year 3 of the rebuilding phase. Should we not expect some improvement over the original team at this point? Instead Herm never coaches to "win the game." He never puts the best personnel on the field to even take a shot at winning. In 2006 LJ had more than 400 carries, now Herm refuses to put him in the game in the second half, when LJ normally destroys defenses. I don't care the score, if you are a running team, you run the ball all fucking game if you want to get this shit-hole of an offensive line some experience and practice. The only thing they do worse than pass-block is run-block.
The problem here is not Carl. It is Herm with a splash of Carl. My ideal setup: Carl, CEO/President; Marty, GM; Cower, Head Coach
